This stone is dedicated to the story of the large copper:
Spread the word and move the stone!
The male fireflies defend a territory of one hundred to four hundred square meters and sometimes larger. Usually they lie in the hottest places. Males use single flowering stalks as the central point in their territory, for example those of big cat tail. Interactions, also with other insects, occur regularly and occasionally there is a territorial battle with a congener.Longer reconnaissance flights alternate with short ones. The males then fly from plant to plant or walk over the leaves. It is assumed that in this way they make scent traces, which are important for reproduction.
The large copper is critically endangered in The Netherlands. Via this stone I want to give this beautiful butterfly extra attention.”
This stone started travelling on 2019-07-04.
Besides the travelling stones, there are also “resting stones” with stories, placed on the trail. Together all these stones form the international art routes.
Click here for more info on the routes.
Did you take the traveling stone? And do you want to leave it on a new location, so it can continue it’s journey? Click here.
This art project wants to pleasantly surprise hikers through miniature art. A second goal is to initiate a new form of communication and awareness, through art and social media. The participant and I are looking forward for your story or response on this stone! (possibly with photo)
The next art project, with a route of resting and traveling stones, starts in 2019 of 2020.

The miniature, message and location.
This stone is dedicated to the story of the large copper:
“The large copper (Lycaena dispar) is part of a series travelling miniature stones depicting endangered or vulnerable animals in Europe. I want to bring attention to these special animals through this art project.
