Part of an inspiring art project with traveling miniatures and art on the walking trails.

Below the story of this stone, location journey and meetings with hikers.

The miniature, location and message.

This stone is dedicated to the story of the cranberry fritillary:

“The cranberry fritillary (Boloria aquilonaris) is part of a series travelling miniature stones depicting endangered or vulnerable animals in Europe. I want to bring attention to these special animals through this art project.
Spread the word and move the stone!

The cranberry fritillary lives along banks of fens and surrounded
through forest. In an area where a lot of small cranberry and lavender grows. He needs these plants for reproduction. It is usually a little mobile butterfly (couch potato butterfly?), But displacements of one to eleven kilometres have been observed.
The species was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century at Venlo.

The cranberry fritillary is critically endangered in The Netherlands. You can still find it in several place in Drenthe. Via this stone I want to give this beautiful butterfly extra attention.”

This stone started travelling on 2019-05-03.
